The tropical depression headed this way turned into Hurricane Dora in the middle of last week. We were assured that the "hurricane" wasn't all that strong and would likely just produce rain and a little wind. The last couple of days the waves have been HUGE, the beach was pretty much closed, and we were advised to steer clear. It was really neat to watch and listen to. The waves were crashing into the beach and rocks so hard that the ground was shaking and the doors on the house were rattling. BUT Dora headed farther out to sea, so the threat of hurricane seems to be over and the waves are slowly getting smaller. I think everyone who lives here was hoping that it would get a little closer, they could desperately use the rain....but I'm glad it didn't make landfall during our stay.
Maggie looked like she was about 8 wearing this pink hat that Elizabeth (kids club director) gave her yesterday.
Gracie hanging at the pool...I think maybe I could make a whole book of pictures of places Gracie slept during her first beach vacation.
Last night we had a bonfire on the beach and made smores. It was pretty warm, but we still had a great time. The chocolate was soft from the heat before we got it anywhere near the fire. The waves were really big, all the little 'spots' you see in the pictures are reflections of the salt floating in the air. When the flash would go, you could see it everywhere.
Ben and Amy enjoying the beach.
Maggie and daddy making smarshmallows.
Who needs to cook the marshmallows when you can just stand here and eat them cold?
Even Gracie got to try a marshmallow. Hers wasn't cooked but she sure liked licking it. (I'm not sure why I had my tongue out, I guess I needed to show her what to do.)
Ben and Arnie taught the kids to call their cart "The Party Barge". So every time we would get ready to leave you could hear Carly and Maggie screaming through the house to go to "the Party Barge." They definitely think their dads are more fun then their boring ol' moms.
This morning we all had to take a trip out to the golf course to see the hole where Ben got his hole in one yesterday.
After visiting "the hole", we swung by the taco hut to show Amy and the kids the view (and probably so Arnie and Ben could say hi to Lara, the taco lady.)
We had to have another quick swim before we headed for the airport. Notice the clouds, that's about as close as we got to having a hurricane.
Maggie and Carly made the hot tub into a "taco hut" and Arnie had to walk up to order.
Bye, Bye Ries'. We hope you enjoyed the beach!!!
While Grace and I drove to the airport, Arnie and Maggie went and hit a few golf balls.
When I got back she told me she thought she'd had about "100 hole in ones!" She also asked Arnie how come Mommy had a hole in one, ben had a hole in one, she had 100 hole in ones and he didn't have any? Poor Arnie, he's now witnessed his mom, his twin brother, his wife and his best friend all having them, his day is coming, I'm sure of it!
Being silly at dinner.
Sleeping at dinner. Another shot for the Grace sleeping at the beach book.
A little strawberry ice cream to finish off the day!
