busy week!

It's been a busy couple of weeks around here. (I think maybe I should just set the bar for "a normal week" a little higher....so I can really enjoy the quiet weeks and I know when to hold on tight for the really busy ones.)

Maggie's nose and lip have improved significantly. As Arnie pointed out last night, she's back to picking her nose, so it must not hurt too bad....gross! The swelling is almost gone, she has a little bump on her nose (but it's straight) & her lip isn't quite back to "normal" but it's much closer then it was. Her teacher asked her about it on Monday and Maggie told her she was "FINE". So apparently she's tired of talking about it.

Gracie is full of funny comments lately...2 of my favorites from this week are....
-"My socks don't care if I put them on the right foot or the wrong foot." (she may have inherited my inability to quickly distinguish right and left!)
-"All the girls are the princesses and daddy is the queen."

Grandma and Aunt Laura gave the girls a lesson in juicing.....It looks like it's too
loud of a hobby for our house :)

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Sunday night we had the opportunity to take the girls to a behind the scenes dinner at the aquarium. The highlight was definitely running around with Freddie the penguin. Gracie wanted to bring him home and keep him as a pet.

besides Freddy, I think their other favorite thing was the VERY talented (& crazy)
balloon lady. See the turtle, jelly fish and fish?
We got to see the giant aquariums from the top and see how they feed the different fish. It made
for a late night, but I think the girls really enjoyed it.

Monday we FINALLY got some snow. It wasn't much but the girls were quick to want to play in it. It's been such a dry cold winter the girls are really wishing we would have a big blizzard.  I guess an inch and a half will have to do for now.  I know I have beach girls because they wanted water to make the snow sticky enough to build a snow castle. They weren't very pleased when that didn't work :(

They were eating snow off their shovels....I'm not sure what happened but Gracie came in
spitting and asking for a drink of water.

Last night we had another dinner in Omaha, so the girls got to spend Grandma's actual birthday with her. They went to a movie, incase you're keeping track that means Grandma (& Grandpa) spent her anniversary and her birthday watching animated movies :) It made for another really late night, Gracie and I are dragging today. I hope Maggie is staying awake at school.

Crazy dancing!

Last night was the Montessori Father/Daughter Butterfly Ball! Maggie was SO excited. She had her hair curled and put on a fancy dress. At the very last minute we realized she didn't have any shoes that fit, so I had to make a quick stop and grab whatever dress shoes I could find. She looked beautiful and was proud to get to go on a date with her daddy....

It sounds like they had a great time. Until the very end. Maggie and her friend Addison were dancing crazy (spinning each other in circles) and they fell....HARD. By the time Maggie got up she was bleeding pretty good and was a little scared. Lots of wonderful people stepped in to help calm her down and get the needed ice, towels, etc. They looked a little less fancy when they walked back in the house.....

....for the sake of a good story later, I wish I had a picture of the 2 of them. Anyway, we quickly decided that we better run Maggie to urgent care and have it check out.

Her nose and lip were too swollen to X-ray, but the doctor was happy with how straight it seemed. We won't really know if it's broken or if anything can be done about it until the swelling goes down.

She's pretty tough. Her lip seems to bother her more then her nose and so far today she's refused any Tylenol.

Thankfully the daddy/daughter dance happens every other year, so she has 2 more. I think next time I'll send her in tennis shoes! :)

???? Math

Maggie is working on math facts....I've been giving her problems and she answers them. She just said, "Mom, leave me alone, I'm going to put a little pressure on myself." Then showed me this......

And then I changed the numbers and she did it again......

Kindergarten must have changed significantly in the last 30 years!! She doesn't call it multiplication, she calls it "groups", but she totally gets the concept. At this rate I'll be useless to help with her homework by 2nd grade.

Why did we come home??

seriously?? It was 80ish and beautiful the entire time we were in Cabo and now it's freezing, snowing and grey. Yuck! I need spring. Maggie had a riding lesson yesterday, and it was back to a cold barn, riding inside, gloves and horse blankets! :( I really need to move.

Maggie's journal filled you in on all of the important details of our trip, but here are a few more pictures....

That's Gracie! Doesn't she look big, I keep thinking it's Maggie when I look at the picture.

That's a serious sand trap!

Gracie thought she could wear this "outfit" to dinner because she had on her fancy shoes!

Maggie's favorite friend Jorge (Hola) was back, he's been gone the last 2 times we've been there. When she
heard his voice she took off running for him and he came running to her, it was the sweetest thing, I wish I was
quick enough to record it. On Thursday he told her had a surprise for her and gave her the largest blue bunny
I've ever seen. Good thing we had extra space in our luggage, because there was NO convincing her to
leave it there.

Maggie has gotten to know some of the little girls who ride at the stable. She even got to be a part
of a Birthday party one morning while we were there.

This is kind of a dirty smelly look out on the highway. Maggie asked if we could stop,
so I pulled in. I think she would have stood there and watched the waves all day. She was
mesmerized.

We bought Gracie some MMMMeee's at the duty free store in the airport and they zip tied the bag shut....
she wasn't amused!
