KINDERGARTEN!!!

How in the world is it the first day of Kindergarten??

Well, it is and Maggie was so excited, that I couldn't be anything but happy for her. She wanted to wake up to her alarm clock....we had her clothes all picked out for today (she actually has 6 days of clothes ready, including socks, shoes and hair accessories, but that's just the first born in her). She seemed to be feeling pretty good this morning, she asked for some Tylenol, but no serious complaints.

I stopped at school to giver her some more medicine at lunch (it's of course against a zillion laws or something for them to give her a dose of Tylenol, so if I wanted her to have it, I had to come administer it. Oy!) I only saw her for about 10 seconds, but she seemed to be happy and was eagerly headed for the cafeteria.

I can't wait to hear about her day!!

We're headed out camping as soon as we pick her up. I think we're all ready to get out of here for a couple days.

She had to take 2 boxes of Kleenexes to school, that's why her
backpack looks SO full.

And with a wave....she was off! I hope she loves it.

Back to life!

Maggie is finally starting to feel better. I think all the excitement about Kindergarten helps, but she's definitely turned a corner.

The girls (and I) had to say good-bye to Miss Lauren today. She heads back to college on Saturday. We will miss her like crazy. I can't believe I didn't take a picture! Darn it. Maggie was very sad to see her go. Gracie had no idea what was going on, but about an hour after Lauren left, she asked if Miss Rhinno was coming back later :( We'll see her soon, but it's not the same as when she's home all summer. Hopefully she'll decide she wants to come home again next summer :)

Maggie had a lot of good-byes today. Lexi, another special babysitter took her out for ice cream and to the park this afternoon, before she heads to college Monday. We're so lucky to have so many wonderful role models for our girls.

Tonight we had Open House at Maggie's school. We got to see her classroom, talk to her teacher, check out the library and art/music room and see lots of her classmates. She was so excited to go, she wanted to wait in the car for Arnie to get home from work.
When she went for Kindergarten Round-Up she told her teacher she liked to be Margaret sometimes, so her cubby label says Margaret.

Our (almost) Kindergartener all tucked in and ready for bed!

This morning she wore her backpack around for awhile to "practice".
A few other pictures from the last week or so....

Cooking is risky business....

....but it makes her SO happy :)

Tuesday night we had a spontaneous end of summer play date with friends! We
will sure miss the late nights and daytime parties :)

She is the happiest trouble-maker I've ever known!

The other night I asked Arnie to bring up a book for Gracie...this is what
I got! Poor dog!

To bed, to bed....tomorrow is a big day at the Robinson house!!! Wish us luck!

Some days....

...I don't blog because I don't want a recorded history of the day :)
The last week and a half has been exhausting. I hate to complain, because Maggie is the one dealing with all the pain, but it's been a long 8 days for all of us. If I had blogged yesterday I wouldn't of had much to say except, the girls are going crazy, everyone is tired of being home. They fight (constantly) and yell, I scold and put in time-out, we take medicine, we argue about resting, we argue about drinking water, they whine and then we do it all over again and again and again....Thankfully today has been better. For the most part I think Maggie is feeling a little better. She's had some moments of excruciating pain today, they told us that it would be very painful when the scabs started to fall off (gross!!!). But she's also had more energy and been up and playing more today then in the previous days.

Lots of people have asked about Maggie's voice. I would never tell her this but it's driving me CRAZY!! Since about 10 hours after surgery it has been extremely nasally. I think she is also moving her tongue funny to avoid the back of her throat. Everything she says sounds like it's coming out of her nose and she sounds a touch British. From what we read, it sounds like it can take 10 to 12 weeks for it to go back to a more normal tone....by 12 weeks from now I'm going to have gone crazy (and so will her new Kindergarten teacher). I'm sure everything in there is swollen....she still mostly breaths out of her mouth (which she did all the time before the surgery) I'm not sure if it's out of habit or necessity. Pray for a return to normal...for all of our sanity.

Anyway, we're still on the mend, not much new to report here. We were going to try and go to Omaha and do some school shopping, but Mom & Dad have both been a bit under the weather this week, and I didn't want to risk Maggie getting sick. We'll see, maybe we'll go Thursday if we think the germs are gone. The big First Day of Kindergarten is Friday.

Still healing...

Not much has changed around here. The doctor warned us that it would be nearly a week before there was much improvement. In general she's feeling ok, there are times when you can tell she hurts, but she's pretty tough.

We're all getting a little stir crazy. Gracie doesn't understand why she keeps getting told to leave her sister alone and why we can't go play outside.

Gracie has been coming up with some interesting ways to accessories her outfits.

Maggie has been enjoying getting mail. Today great-grandma sent her a few buttons for her button box (she wanted to collect buttons like the girls in Little House on the Prairie). She thought it was pretty amazing that one of the buttons was from when Great-grandma was young!

Tonight we went to a movie with some friends. It was a great way to get out of the house and a quiet activity that Maggie could enjoy without getting too crazy. We are lucky to have such great friends!

Hopefully everyone will sleep well tonight....we could all use it!

Tonsils, day 2

Maggie is still doing really well. Today it seems harder to convince her to eat and drink. I'm sure it hurts like crazy. She had a little macaroni and cheese for breakfast, but hasn't wanted much since.

She didn't understand why I wouldn't let her ride her bike this morning. But did admit later on that she feels better when she just sits quiet.

Her voice is definitely different. I think some of it is swelling, but if I wasn't looking right at her, I wouldn't recognize it.

Gracie is worried about Maggie. She checks on her a lot. She's done better then I expected with Maggie being so attention needy. She's really happy to participate in all the Popsicle and pudding eating.

I said no to riding bikes, but she did get to go do sidewalk chalk for a while.

Last night Grandma and I took out all of her braids, she could have won an 80's hair contest for sure....

Surgery day...

7:45am- Maggie is out of surgery and in recovery. The doctor said she did well. We should get to see her in about 45 min.

8:20am- The anesthesiologist just came in and said "I'm not sure I've ever had a kid start talking that quickly after surgery." So apparently she's awake....and still herself :)

1:30pm- The first half hour after surgery was rough. She threw up a couple of times so they couldn't keep any pain medicine in her. Once she calmed down, she asked for a Popsicle and things went up hill from there. They kicked her out about 10:30. We were really surprised, but the nurse though she was ready and so did Maggie. She got sick again on the drive to grandma and grandpas, but has done great since she got here. They told us she wouldn't want to eat for a week and she just ate a bowl of soup and asked for some gum. I'm sure there will be some rough moments, but so far, so good!

Good thing we were at the hospital at 5:15 am, it left us enough time for a game of monopoly before surgery....who needs sleep??

First Popsicle of many....

The end of vacation.

We made it safely home from Cabo. We had a great trip and I'm grateful for the time we got to spend together relaxing and enjoying vacation. Our flights were uneventful, which is exactly how we like them. Here are a few pictures from the last couple days.... (I'll add more when I get time to dump the other camera)....

The next Misty May and Kerri Walsh....

Maggie had her hair braided on Thursday. It took almost 2 hours, but she was SO
happy with it when it was done. She loves the clicking noise the beads make when she shakes
her head.

Thumbs up for vacation :)

Yum, Yum, everyone wants a big glass of milk when it's 95 degrees outside.

Ummm....I don't think she's old enough for that.

Bye, Bye Shakira! We'll miss you.

See you later Cabo....we'll be back soon!
We have to be at the hospital at 5:15 tomorrow morning. Hopefully by 8am Maggie will be out of surgery. She had her pre-op appointment today, the best news was that the doctor told her she could leave her "vacation hair" (braids) in for surgery.  She doesn't seem too nervous. She's worried that the surgery is going to change her voice. She and Grandma made some popsicles today, so she's excited about eating them when she gets home. The surgery is technically outpatient, but he warned us not to be surprised if they decide to keep her. I'll post when she's out of surgery and as she progresses. Say a little prayer for her.
